Antenatal classes

Antenatal classes

Pregnancy and childbirth in Great Britain can be a stressful experience if you are unfamiliar with how the system works and what you are expected to do, especially if you have the language barrier.
To make this time less stressful we would like to offer the pregnant couples meetings which will help them to understand the functioning of the British health system and the childbirth itself.
During such classes, a qualified midwife will answer all questions and explain the procedures related to maternity care including antenatal, birth and post-natal care. She will offer information on:
  • the choice of hospital
  • the scope of maternity care (ultrasound scans, midwife meetings)
  • the type and number of medical tests available
  • pregnancy diet
  • preparation for childbirth
An important aspect of the classes is the labour itself. Our midwife will talk about:
  • labour and birthing positions
  • available range of options for pain relief - how they work and how they affect the baby
  • induction, complications and assisted birth
The last aspect of the classes will be post-natal care:
  • breastfeeding positions, advantages of breastfeeding, as well as, milk production processes and hormonal changes related to it
  • psychological aspects of childbirth and breastfeeding
We offer a one-time meeting that lasts about one hour.
